About Val

Thomas Duval “Val” Guest, Jr. has called the Grand Strand home for more than 30 years. An attorney, former prosecutor, husband, father, and longtime community leader, Val proudly represents South Carolina House District 106 in Horry County.

Val graduated from The Citadel before earning his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He began his legal career clerking for the Honorable Justice John Waller before serving as a prosecutor in the Horry County Solicitor's Office. Val later entered private practice and is a partner with Ouverson, Guest & Carter in Murrells Inlet.

Elected to the South Carolina House in 2022, Val brings decades of legal experience to his work in Columbia. He serves on the House Judiciary Committee and House Ethics Committee, where his background as an attorney and former prosecutor helps inform his work on public safety, the law, and accountable government.

Val's commitment to the Grand Strand began long before his service in the State House. He has been an active member of the Surfside Area Rotary Club since 1992 and previously served as its President. He is also a past President of the Horry County Bar Association, a graduate of Leadership Grand Strand, and has served his church as an usher, youth leader, and Treasurer.

Val and his wife, Jeanne, have been married for more than 30 years and have two adult daughters. Their family has deep ties to the community, including local schools, sports programs, and Belin Memorial United Methodist Church.

For Val, representing District 106 is about protecting the community he and his family have called home for decades while preparing the Grand Strand for the future. He remains committed to being a strong voice for Horry County and ensuring continued growth does not come at the expense of the values and quality of life that make the Grand Strand special.
